FBAB 16TH BLOGGERS MEET | WHOOPPEEZZ

Whooppeezz opened to the public couple of months ago and I had the opportunity to swing by for a tasting yesterday, thanks to FBAB (Food Bloggers Association Bangalore) invite, being an ardent admirer of pizza I couldn’t have missed an opportunity as fantastic as this one.

There were roughly 15 odd people who turned up and it was one heck of a culmination. We almost ended up trying every single item on the menu which was served to us very patiently one by one. I’ve never been in a place in the city with such creativity when it comes to topping combinations. It’d been years since I’d had pineapple on a pizza, and ingredients like egg on pizza’s, chocolate pizza or mushroom topped garlic bread aren’t things you see on a pizza menu every day. Although we find most of the pizza joints serving up the same toppings pizza in a mix and match form, Whooppeezz seems to limit the majority of its most intriguing ingredients to a single pizza.

Talking about its ambience, it has a very modern and vibrant look. The atmosphere was just as memorable as the pizza. It’s incredibly intimate with just about 10 tables for small parties. The walls were decorated with pizza pictures and philosophical foodie quotes. They had filament bulbs hanging from the roof, adorably wrapped in jute.

None of the items were disappointing, though I would say the pizza was far superior to the pasta. The ultimate standout? The whooppeezzoo. Now common let’s be real. Extra cheese is always a beautiful addition to a pizza, or even on its own. Imagine this, double layered crust, very crispy and crunchy, soft delicious cheese filling that oozes and dribbles out with every bite you take and then comes the top layer filled with Sun-dried tomatoes, olives black & green, Jalapenos, bell peppers, Paneer and many more.  The next hit for the day were the desserts. Each had its own charm whether it is the soft spongy Tre Leche cake floating in a stream of milkmaid (or their secret sauce which they refuse to divulge) or the chocolate filled pizza topped very aptly with almond flakes and gems or the choco bomb. While you indulge on the chocolate pizza, you feel guilty breaking off one of her cloves, but the chocolate rolled pie is so heavenly, you can’t help yourself. A glance and a bite and you’re hooked. Nothing else matters.

Although words can’t do the experience justice, here are a couple that come to mind when I think about the pizza I’ve eaten there: epic, magical, legendary, orgasmic, life-changing. It’s that great. And the food is only the beginning. Watching them make pizza after pizza is like watching an artist create his masterpiece. Every piece of dough is a blank canvas. What happens next is heavenly. The sauce. The cheeses. The oil. The basil. The toppings. That brick oven.

As my friend pointed out, the imperfection of the pizza is what makes it perfect. It’s not completely round. Some parts of the crust are slightly more burnt than others. Some bites are saucier, some cheesier. But that’s part of the experience. As no further commentary can do Whooppeezz justice, I will now direct you to the photos below which I hope will inspire you to go there yourself. Right away!

MY BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION | BIERE STREET

Biere Street was on my list from a long time but i never got an opportunity to go here as most of my lazy bum friends refuse to ride all the way to Whitefield. So when it was my birthday i got the perfect opportunity to make them ride all the way to Whitefield **wink** **evilness** .

So although i was very sure on what my surprise would be, i kept it under wraps to surprise them in return. And the surprise was my mother turning up for this party, which was exactly what i wanted.

I had made the reservations for 8 of us at this place. We all reached by around 8'ish, all of us managed to be late except for my mom who was there on time. After the greeting and the birthday wishes and kisses and hugs we settled down.

The ambiance of this place is excellent. Open air with cool breeze and luckily it dint rain so we could enjoy the entire night in bliss. Since my mother was one of the guests we had a strict no alcohol policy. So we all settled for some fresh juice and lime soda.

This was followed by a veg and non veg platter and also a bucket of chicken nachos. As far as i can tell the veg platter did do the justice to our taste buds but sadly that was not the case with the main course. We ordered for 2 pizzas one veg and another non veg, a burger combo, spaghetti and some pastas. Although  i did enjoy my pizza, the same wasnt true with the spaghetti and pasta. Both of it was bland and tasteless which resulted in a deep disappointment.

Overall a nice place. A brilliant place for a romantic dinner with some wine. May be next time i would go here to taste the alcohol menu!

GOOD FOOD BAD SERVICE| MALABAR BAY

If you are a Kerala cuisine fan and love to try the Kerala style chicken or seafood, this is the right place for you. And it wouldnt even cost a huge hole in your pocket.

I had visited this place twice in the past couple of months and i enjoyed the food thoroughly, although i am a tad bit disappointed with their service which is a bit slow. One has to repeat the same thing atleast twice or thrice to get an output.

The things i tried here are: Chicken Ghee roast, Chicken Biryan, Kerala Paratha with mushroom curry and Chapathi with egg curry.

Each one of this dishes were brilliant and tasty,. The Chicken was properly cooked, the egg curry was spicy and mouth watering and so was the Kerala Paratha. If one could ignore the service, this place is good.

    A SO-SO PLACE | PANCHAVATI GAURAV THALI

This mother’s day (I noe I am way late with this post ;)), I and my sister decided to take our mother out for a lovely meal at Panchavati Gaurav Thali. Although my mom do dig in most of the cuisines, her most favorites are the traditional authentic Indian cuisines like Rajasthani, Guajarati and few others.

Turns out this place isn’t that great after all. A whooping 3.2 rating on Zomato is justifiable.

As far as I remember, the service was slow, food was average and the number of dishes was again average; they do serve Jain food: but their menu is completely different.

    Flagging points:
    11. Aam-ras was excellent, an instant hit among us.
      2. The teeny-tiny fluffy roti’s again were noteworthy.
3.Aloo and Mutter ki sabji again was commendable.

A little more effort on their menu and a tad bit better service can put them in the race amongst the other Rajasthani food joints.

GOOD FOOD BAD SERVICE | RIVERSIDE BAR & KITCHEN

It is quite ironic when a place is named as Riverside Bar and Kitchen, but doesn’t serve alcohol or for that matter even wine. I completely agree with the riverside concept given that they forte (or atleast they claim to) in the sea food genre, but bar? I am still left pondering!

The moment “Riverside Bar and Kitchen” hoarding was put up with a signboard of “opening shortly”, I was waiting for an opportunity to try out this place. Situated right on the Whitefield main road at a mere km walk from Forum Value Mall, this place did manage to gain attention of various foodies that travel this road, me being one from the lot. What got my attention? Well, they do have a fabulous interior, a little sober but attractive one, with lamps hanging from the ceiling and fluorescent sign board at the entrance. One can enjoy the fresh breeze or rain from the seating area if you are lucky enough with the weather. Also this is quite a place to enjoy a romantic dinner with you loved one’s.

I could go on and on describing about their ambience but I am afraid that’s all I can brag about when it comes to Riverside as a whole. If they had worked on everything else just the way they did with their looks this could be one of the best places to go dine at, in Bangalore. Unfortunately they do need to work a lot harder to enter the race.

We ordered for a Tandoori Dum aloo as our starter followed by Vegetable Dum Biryani as our entrée. Dum aloo was perfectly cooked and mixed well with the green, red and pink chatni. Dum Biryani also was commendable. They did manage to capture the biryani aroma and when tasted, the spices seemed to have done their jobs quite well.

Now you must be wondering what went wrong here. Well to start with, they dint serve wine which was quite a disappointment as both of us were looking forward on enjoying a glass of wine. Secondly their service and staff members are quite ignorant and badly managed. It took them a zillion year to get the orders straight and to serve them. We almost waited 30 min to get the attention of one staff member just to place the order, again another 30min to get our starter and then another 30 min to get the Biryani.

A bad service with good food is absolutely not an option if you have to survive in Bangalore. So if the management could try to work on this part, they might do a better job.

When it comes to the VFM, I have absolutely no complaints in the Veg section. But non-veg section, especially the sea food side, the food seems extremely expensive with every dish ranging from 700-800.

    A DISAPPOINTMENT | XPLODE - REST BAR

Yet another disappointment in Sarjapur, Xplode. Definitely makes me wanna Xplode with frustration.

I wonder how these places are still functioning when customers dont turn up.

We ended up at this place as Sarjapur as we dint have much of an option anyways other than Big Brewsky. The interiors were confusing with photos of , Angelina Jolie, Michael Jackson, Jimmy Hendrix, Tom hanks, David Beckham etc. up on their walls, trying to make a point i guess, which was too cliche.

Initially we were seated on the ground floor, but had to run upstairs with our food as it started raining profusely. After too much of an effort we did manage to reach upstairs and what we find is the rain following us their. After 15 min struggle between the staff trying to keep up with the rain and trying to close the shutters on all the sides they did manage to full proof the place against rain. But by the end of the it, the tissues were scattered, the menus were on the floors, the food mats were wet and the place was a complete mess.

Although i was disappointed with such carelessness, we had no option but to continue our meal there. We places our orders and waited for it to arrive. As we chit chatted around describing our days, the dishes made their way to our table one by one. I wasnt quite impressed with the presentation and had not much hopes on the taste as well. But to my surprise the food was quite decent, but nothing to be awe'ed about.

Will i go here again? Probably not! A one time experience is good enough. Although i i feel this pplace is meant for those folks who enjoy drinking beer while listening to music.
